From Confusion to Carrot Soup: Finding Myself in the Kitchen

Hi friends, Welcome to my little corner of the internet! I recently started this blog to document my adulting journey—because let’s be honest, figuring things out as an adult is a wild ride. One day you’re convinced you’re destined to be a travel blogger, the next you’re knee-deep in skincare reviews or experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen. And honestly? I’m still figuring out what I truly love. But that’s the beauty of it—I get to explore it all, and I’m taking you along for the ride.

Cooking as Self-Discovery Lately, I’ve been reconnecting with myself through food. Cooking has become more than just a necessity—it’s turning into a craft I genuinely enjoy. I’ve always loved the idea of cooking, but never really had the time or energy to invest in it. Now, I’m realizing it’s not just about feeding myself—it’s about creating something, expressing myself, and slowing down enough to enjoy the process.

The Star of the Show: Carrot & Celery Soup
It’s winter here in South Africa, and nothing makes more sense than a warm bowl of soup to fight off the chill.
This Carrot and Celery Soup is simple, comforting, and budget-friendly.
Ingredients
- 4 whole carrots (peeled and chopped)
- 4 celery sticks (chopped)
- 1 onion (diced)
- 2 cloves of garlic (minced)
- Herbs and spices of your choice (I used thyme, black pepper, and a pinch of paprika)
- 2 cups of water

Method
1. Brown the onion in a bit of oil until soft and fragrant.
2. Add garlic and cook for a minute.
3. Toss in chopped carrots and celery, stir, then add water.
4. Cover and simmer until veggies are soft (about 30 minutes).
5. Season with herbs and spices.
6. Blend for a smooth texture or leave it chunky for a rustic feel. >
*Pro tip:* I served mine with garlic bread and a spoonful of salsa on top for a bit of crunch and zing. Because let’s be real—what’s soup without bread?
Cooking Is Art This experience reminded me that cooking is a form of storytelling. Like any artist, you guide people through a journey—flavor by flavor, bite by bite. I added little twists to make the recipe my own, and that’s what made it special. It wasn’t just soup—it was a reflection of where I am right now: experimenting, learning, and embracing the messy, beautiful process of figuring things out. Thanks for reading, friend. If you’re also on a journey of self-discovery—whether through food, fashion, or just figuring out what makes you feel alive—I hope this post reminds you that it’s okay not to have it all figured out. Sometimes, all you need is a warm bowl of soup and a little curiosity.

See you in the next article, Katsogail 💛
