Heritage & Hearty Meals: My Cozy Experience at Mike’s Kitchen Parktown
Hey friends! Welcome back to the blog.
This week, I took a little detour from my usual lifestyle routines and beauty rituals to indulge in one of my favorite activities— eating out and soaking up new experiences. And trust me, Mike’s Kitchen Parktown did more than just serve food—it served heart, heritage, and a whole lot of flavor.
The Setting – Warmth in Every Corner
Tucked away in Parktown, Johannesburg, Mike’s Kitchen is housed in a beautiful old Randlord home built in 1905. From the moment I stepped in, I felt like I’d walked into someone’s family home—soft lighting, vintage charm, and garden views that make you want to linger longer. Whether you’re dining solo or with a crew, the ambiance is peaceful and inviting. I got to experience all of this with a close friend of mine and believe me when I say, we didn't want to leave.
The Food – Flavor That Feels Familiar
Let’s talk food—because wow! I ordered the Sun kissed Burger, and it was chef’s kiss. The bacon was nice and crispy and the sun kissed tomatoes were the star of the show, and it reminded me why I love sit-down meals. I also snuck a bite of my friend’s Shack Burger, and now I have regrets... regrets that I didn’t order two meals!
You know that feeling when your food arrives and everyone goes quiet because they’re too busy enjoying every bite? That was us. Pure bliss.
The Vibe – Like Sunday Lunch at Home
The staff were friendly, and not just “smile and nod” friendly—they actually engaged, made jokes, gave menu tips. It felt relaxed and thoughtful, like the kind of place you’d bring your parents or catch up with an old friend. And best part? There’s a kid-friendly play area if you’re dining with little ones.
What It Meant to Me
This meal reminded me of the importance of slowing down. Of being present. It wasn’t just about eating —it was about taking a moment out of a busy week to do something kind for myself. To indulge. To exhale.
It’s easy to get caught up in routines — work, errands, goals — but places like Mike’s Kitchen help you hit pause and reconnect with simple pleasures.
Final Thoughts
If you’re ever in Parktown and looking for a spot that blends history, comfort food, and genuine hospitality — Mike’s Kitchen is it. I left full, happy, and feeling just a little more grounded.
Until next time, stay fabulous, stay present, and treat yourself to something delicious!
